Dancing With The Stars

Posted on 03:10 by Unknown

We are just so proud of Sean!  He took this amazing opportunity and challenge and did his very best.  We love Uncle Seanie and think he did a fabulous job!  Kensington can't wait for him to come home and dance with her.  Six weeks on Dancing With Stars is a HUGE accomplishment!  Well done little brother!

XOXO

Over in the Mama's kitchen today, we're talking about...

You know...that meal in the middle of the day that no one pays attention to.  We are getting lunch inspired over at my food blog!

And don't forget!  My Origami Owl giveaway ends tonight!  Click here for more details.

Have a wonderful day!!

#shayeveryday2013 Week 17 plus some DWTS!

Posted on 03:05 by Unknown
I would just like to document for the record that today is May 2 and the high in Dallas is 51 degrees.  That is the craziest thing I think I've heard.  I'm going to enjoy it though...because next week, it could easily be 105.

Day 113: I've been waiting 6 months for Michael Buble's newest CD to come out...of course, I was there first thing that morning.  Come on people...check my about me section...I'm moments away from a restraining order.

Day 114: This was an extra fabulous day!  First, the kids and I played and played at the gym together. Then, we stopped off for lunch before heading home.  We just had one of those wonderful days together.

Day 115: This boy loves to help me cook dinner.  I let him pick the cut of pasta that night...he picked bow tie :).

Day 116: I was trying to take a picture of Smith and me at dinner...this is how it turned out.

Day 117: Spending time with my dad!

Day 118: Church wore this boy out!  He fell asleep within seconds of getting in the car.

Day 119: The perfect way to spend a Monday.

And for dinner tonight, my Corn & Bacon Risotto is out of this world!

Now...on to Dancing With The Stars...

My random thoughts from this week:

1. I think from here on out, Ali, Kellie and Zendaya will all get 9s or 10s each week.

2. I liked how they all had to do a Latin dance...it was a lot easier to compare them to each other when they were doing the same type of dance.

3. I was surprised Ingo won 2 out of 3 when doing the dance-off against Sean...was it just me or did he not really move that much?  I felt like Kim danced around him.  Maybe I'm wrong...after all, I don't know how to ballroom dance and I am a little biased.

4. As much as I have grown to love, love, love Andy Dick...it was time for him to go.  What a gracious contestant.  I wish him nothing but the best in the future.

5. Again...I love Michael Buble.  I don't think I need to say more than that.  Even my kids were excited that he was on DWTS.  I'm pretty sure they think he's family.

6. For a complete (and really funny) recap, check out Pinterest Told Me To.  Sheaffer does the BEST job of recapping this show (with a ton of hilarious commentary!).

Have a great day everyone!

DWTS Episode 6 Recap: Wonder-ful Things

Posted on 03:01 by Unknown
It was a Stevie Wonder night on DWTS this week!  And to honer such an occasion, I thought I'd share my Wonder-ful Things!  These are things I'm in love with right now...they're Wonder-ful!

(Sorry...but when you give me the name Wonder for this week's post...I'm going to totally over-use it...brace yourself!)

And yes, the most Wonder-ful thing of all is that Sean wasn't eliminated...we'll get to that...but first...

Sheaffer has mentioned these wedges here,  here and here on her blog recently.  This...

...is an actual picture of my feet that Sheaffer took as we shopped for them at Nordstrom last week.

She called me and said that these were the most comfortable wedges ever made.  Period.  I must buy them. That day.  Hurry.

Being the wedge expert that I am...I was a little skeptical.  I know wedges.  Wedge Queen is my name.  That being said...

...she was EXACTLY RIGHT!  These wedges are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!  I bought them in two colors (taupe and black).  Thanks to the Wonder-ful Sheaffer for being on the lookout for the most perfect wedge of all time.

These are J Crew's 3" Chino Shorts.  In my opinion, they're are the best shorts money can buy.  I'm going to confess something to you...please no hate mail.  I realize what I'm about to say is excessive...but I want to be truthful and honest (and really emphasize how I think they are the best shorts).   I counted...and within the last two seasons, I have purchased 11 pair.  (Again, no hate mail.  I understand that is excessive.  But I wear them every.single.day.)  If you need a new pair of shorts (or 11 pairs), you should check them out.  Like today.

And bonus!

And if you know J Crew (which I do), they don't have sales that often...so when they do, you should stock up.

And finally, my Wonder-ful yellow scarf always gets complimented.  It's light and bright and perfect for spring and summer.  And...

...is 30% off your online purchase.  Even more Wonder-ful, right?!

Ok...so, I had a lot to say about Monday night's show...and then Sean was in the bottom two on Tuesday and I forgot everything.  I'm just thrilled he didn't get kicked off!

The reason I think Sean was in the bottom two...because the wardrobe people sent him out to dance in old man pjs.  I seriously remember my Granddaddy wearing a pair of pajamas that looked exactly like that when I was younger.  Even Kensington (who is only four!) said, "Whoa.  What is he wearing?".

I thought Ali looked fabulous on Monday's show.  It was my favorite Ali performance.

At first, I thought I missed Kellie's beautiful long hair, but after seeing her with the wig on Monday night, I realized that I actually prefer her cute little cut.  (Not dancing related...but a general observation I had.)

I absolutely adore me some Andy Dick...but it's time for him to go.  Who would have ever thought he would have made it 7 episodes?

Zendaya's long fingernails really annoy me.  Just something I've been thinking about for the last 6 weeks...she's such a cute girl...but those nails are not my favorite (cue hate mail from long nail loving people).

My favorite part of the night?  The two group dances!  I really liked both of them and actually thought they deserved higher scores then they received.

Ok...he survived another week (barely!).  It was a Wonder-ful week!

Dinner tonight is a no-brainer!  It's a Chicken Caprese Pizza you can whip up in minutes.

And today is the last day for my Stella & Dot party!  Shop now while you still can!

And for even more DWTS...you must check out DWTS Told Me To!  Sheaffer doesn't just know how to pick out the perfect wedge...she knows her DWTS too!

#shayeveryday2013 Week 15 (plus some DWTS)

Posted on 02:46 by Unknown
Day 99: It's the simple things that make a house a home.  For us, it's yummy soaps, a candle, cookbooks and a little chocolate (all grouped together!).

Day 100: Yay!  The perfect way to spend Day 100!  It was cold and rainy outside, so we stayed in and baked cookies together.  I just love this special time with my kids!

Day 101: Lunch with my sweet cousin Brooke

Day 102: Friday night spent at Chuck E. Cheese's.  I used to be cool...

Day 103: Smith's first time hitchhiking. He knew Lovie was in the car somewhere behind him, so he asked if we could pull over (on her street) and let him catch a ride.

Day 104: Sunday lunch with my boys :)

Day 105: Trying to shop at the mall with Sheaffer is not that easy with our 3 crazy kids.  The people at Gap were happy to see us go...

Alright...let's talk about this for just a few seconds...

I was so, so, so impressed by Monday night's show!  I loved having some of my favorite pros back for Len's Side By Side Challenge.  I agreed with Carrie Ann...I think it made all of the competitors better!  At first, I cringed thinking there was no way someone could dance opposite a great like Maks or Anna without looking like a fool...but they proved me wrong!

I was also a little nervous about Sean doing the Quick Step. Even though he has fast feet from football, he wears a size 13 shoe...not exactly twinkle toes, but I was really proud!  He's improving every week...and isn't that the goal?!

I was a little surprised to see Ingo in the bottom 3 but not totally surprised to see D.L. go home.  I think he did such a great job and worked really hard to improve this last month (remember him from the first night?!?!), but it was probably his time.

Don't forget, Sheaffer has her complete DWTS recap up on Pinterest Told Me To!

Have a great day everyone!!  XOXO

DWTS Episode 4 Recap: Viennese Waltz

Posted on 03:07 by Unknown
Hello friends!

Well, over my years of watching Dancing With The Stars, I come to realize one thing...the Viennese Waltz gets a lot of tough remarks!  I'm not quite sure why (I'm not exactly a ballroom dancing expert), but year after year, when I catch episodes, if there is a Viennese Waltz, watch out...the judges seem to be hard on the competitors.  That being said...I think this guy right here...

...did an excellent job!  This was his first really serious dance (and by the way, I can't wait until he does a Latin dance...I've never seen him shake his hips, so I'm really curious to how that's going to go down!), and I thought he had nice form, the choreography was great, the music was great, it matched his theme of how 2012 was a great year for him...the Shull family was proud!

But...I do have a few other comments and observations from Monday night's show...

I kind of think it's stacking the deck a bit when you allow a person to enter the contest that won a gold medal in gymnastics only 8 months ago...

...I'm just saying...

Her dance was really, really good...but part of why she is so good is that she has had experience in floor routines, counting music, showmanship, flexibility  etc, that the other competitors haven't had.  I wasn't going to point it out...but when I saw her tumbling pass on Monday's episode, I couldn't take it any longer.  She is incredible!  But...is it fair to compare her to let's say him...

...probably not.  That's all...Aly seems really sweet but there is just no way that she is an equal competitor to the rest of them (cue bitter, angry comments from my Aly fans).  And by the way, once again, I found myself saying, "I just love Andy Dick".  Really...who knew he would be so likable lovable?!

My new favorite pro (besides Peta...I adore me some Peta!) is this guy...

...Val has all of the swagger and skill as his brother Maks but he doesn't come across as arrogant.  He is just so much fun to watch!  Which is why I predict his partner...

...will make it to the top three for sure!

And then there is this lady...

...Lisa might have been down and out on Monday night...but she looked smokin' hot!  Holy cow!  Lisa is 20 years older than me but geez, I'd love to have a bod like her's today!  Who cares if she is a weak dancer?  She's gorgeous on the outside and lovely on the inside...and that's a winner to me!

Well...to add a fun twist to my week, I received this fun bracelet from Nicole at My Happy Place Shop...

...and since it's fun and sparkly, I thought why not share it on the day I share DWTS with you...because they're both just so fun and sparkly!

Nicole has a special offer for my readers, if you go to her site and purchase two jewelry pieces, she'll mix and match you a third beaded bracelet for free!  (And honestly, wouldn't three be even more fun?!)  Just make sure you leave her a comment with your order that says you're a reader of mine.

You can also check out Nicole on Face Book here.

DWTS and jewelry...such a great combination!  Want to know what else is a great combination?  Me and Sheaffer...you must check out her DWTS Told Me To post today!  Hilarious as always!

DWTS, check.
Jewelry, check.
Sheaffer, check.

This is the perfect day!

DWTS Recap Episode 3: Cha-Cha

Posted on 02:30 by Unknown
So, this week, Dancing With The Stars had a prom theme which I loved!  Watching two hours of ballroom dancing could get a little tedious if not done well, and I think DWTS does it very well!  The prom theme kept me interested and entertained because I loved hearing the back stories of the celebrities and their own prom experiences.  Plus...the music was super fun and the costumes extra sparkly...and Brooke Burke-Chavet's hair rocked my world.

Sean danced the Cha-Cha to YMCA...let's face it...that is probably the cheesiest song in the world.  However, I thought Peta did a great job using that song and making the Cha-Cha extra fun!  Each week, I continue to be amazed at how much better Sean is doing.  You can see all of his hard work and practice paying off.

The judges were really happy with his performance too.  On a side note, I'm pretty sure Sean is trying to wear any costume that doesn't involve sequins and velvet...this week overalls, last week, this...

...smart, smart man.  He's managing to look manly and cool while dancing sans sequins and glitter.

I'm still madly in love with Andy Dick.  Eight words I thought I'd never say.

I think Kellie is a force to be reckoned with.  She continues to impress me week after week.

And Wynonna...needed to go home.  I love her!  I respect her!  But I don't think it's fair to send someone else home when she really wasn't dancing out there.  Tony is dancing around her and she kind of just walks along beside him.  I feel bad for Tony (who never really gets a true competitor each season) but I think the right person was sent home.

If you need a yummy meal to eat while watching the show, click here to see my foodie blog.

Don't forget to check out Sheaffer's Dancing With The Stars Told Me To recap here!

Three episodes down...who will win that Mirror Ball Trophy???
