June Pinspired

Posted on 03:00 by Unknown
It's our June edition of Pin-spired!  Let's face it...if I get out of my swim suit this month, we'll consider that a miracle in itself.  Here are a couple of my Pinerest inspired creations for the month (make sure you check out Mel and Sheaffer's recreations too!)...

I have been wearing a scarf with my shorts for years and years.  A light scarf is nothing more than a big necklace (it's not for warmth during the summer...it's just an accessory).  In fact...one of my friends (Sheaffer!) used to mock me for it...and now look who wears them all.the.time...

My mom bought me this light weight scarf in Boston.  If you're not in Boston, check out another great light weight scarf  here.  I love, love, love J Crew's new cap sleeve vintage cotton tees.  They are the perfect weight and fit.  (They also come in v-neck and crew neck too).

I paired it with my olive colored shorts and my favorite wedges (of course!).

A butterfly scarf and pink shirt just makes me happy!

If you haven't noticed yet...I like stripes on my shirt.  In fact, if you pay attention...you'll probably rarely see me without a striped shirt on!  This pic was my inspiration (striped shirt, shorts and tall shoes).

I love a stripe shirt (with my tank peaking out) and of course, J Crew 3" chinos.

My Steve Madden wedges :)

Now...I talked about this beautiful lady on April's Pinspired.  It's the fabulous Courtney Kerr (fashion blogger, reality TV star and now...jewelry designer for BaubleBar!).  I found this pin where she is modeling her new jewelry for BaubleBar.  Stunning.  Both her and the jewelry.

And looky at what Courtney sent me in the mail...two gorgeous necklaces from her new (really affordable!) line.

Such fun mail!

And here I am wearing one of them.  It was love at first sight.  Thank you Courtney!

Don't forget to link up below!
We love seeing how you got Pinspired this month.  And if you're looking for something yummy to make for dinner this weekend...I have you covered!  Check out my easy twist on a burger...

#shayeveryday2013 Week 21 (and some other pics)

Posted on 03:00 by Unknown
Some Shay Everyday pics and then some extra pics too...lots of i-Phone love today!

Day 141: I was on Good Morning Texas again!  This is me in the car about to go in the studio.  I just love everyone there at GMT!!

Day 142: I always remind myself of the blessings we have when I see things like this...Erika and I became so close when we were both struggling to get pregnant...and now look at all of those kids!  (Plus, she has sweet baby Bowen too!).  God is so good!

Day 143: After a busy day and gymnastics, we sat down to dinner.  I love mealtime with my family!  (For the green juice recipe, check out my friend Dana's fabulous recipe here.)

Day 144: Our dear friends Lori, Ethan and Ellie volunteer at a wildlife ranch...we spent the day with them looking at animals.  It was so much fun!

Day 145: Furniture shopping with my loves.

Day 146: I am a boy mom.  A three year old boy mom.  And I love every minute of it!

Day 147: The end of a 3 day weekend...chlorine hair, tired eyes, a little tan and a lot of great memories.  (And that's not a Red Sox rug in the background...it's her Red Sox blanket.  She had her dolls spread out on it.)

And here are a few more pics for you...

Our Poppy Popsicle...she's a sweet dog (and sometimes a bit of a mess) but we love her dearly.

Petting a deer that had been hit by a car and then cared for at the ranch.  Look how his jaw is displaced.  Bless that sweet little deer.

Kangaroo love

My kids love horses!

And camels

I asked Smith to go put his pjs on...he came downstairs completely naked but with a baseball cap on his head.  It's never dull.

And Sheaffer has her Bachelorette Told Me To recap up today!  It's hysterical (of course!)...you better go check it out!

See you tomorrow for...

Memorial Day Fun!

Posted on 02:45 by Unknown

We had such a fun Memorial Day weekend...and I forgot to take a lot of pictures!  I just hate when that happens.  It usually happens because we're having so much fun that I'm not thinking about documenting it.  Here's a recap...

1. On Friday, the 4 Shulls headed out for Mexican food (because that just makes sense on a Friday night), and then we went and bought the kids their first tennis rackets (because they're going to start tennis lessons this summer...we'll see how that goes...).  It was a fun and relaxing Friday night.

2. On Saturday, my parents came over and we furniture shopped for the new house.  Then we had breakfast for dinner...which is my favorite thing to do!

3. On Sunday after church, we headed to my parents' annual Memorial Day party.  I should have taken a gazillion photos (because it was so much fun!) but I totally forgot until I saw this at dinner...

...Smith sound asleep at the table.  I grabbed my camera and took a few photos.

A few years ago, we started a tradition where the Slaughter family joins us each year.  We always have so much fun!  Kensington and Ebby Lee swam their little hearts out!

Nixon was a jumping and swimming fool too!

Sweet Bowen and Erika!

Paisley and me (she's not technically my niece...her dad is my cousin, but I call her one.  I love this girl!)

Smith woke up from the table...ate a few chips and then fell asleep again... but this time, on Papa Jay.  He swam hard and was exhausted!

On Monday, we tried swimming again but it was really overcast and kind of cool.  The kids napped during the day and we grilled steaks for dinner.  This week, we have swim lessons every day and are soaking up our first official week of summer.

If you missed Fifty Two Shades of Shay yesterday...it was on wedges!!  Woohoo!  Click here to get the scoop on my favorite footwear.

And this month, our Pin-spired Linky Party will be this Friday, May 31st!!  Get ready to link up!

And today in my kitchen...one of my very favorite lunch ideas!  Click here to check it out.

Happy Summer!

Fifty Two Shades of Shay: Wedges

Posted on 03:07 by Unknown

Alright...this is happening.  I'm talking about my wedges.

I mean, come on...look at the Fifty Two Shades of Shay image!  The wedge is my signature trademark.  I am a wedge enthusiast...and this is the post where I show you all sorts of fun wedges and talk wedge love with you...

I really don't remember wearing my first pair of wedges.  I was probably 4.  Maybe 5.  Let's just say...it was a looooong time ago.  To me, wedges are the perfect shoe.  They're heels (because...why wear a flat when you can wear a heel?), they give you more support than a regular heel because your entire foot is braced, they are easier to walk in than pumps, they are timeless, and they look good with everything from pants to shorts to dresses and skirts.

My favorite kind of wedge is a neutral wedge...one that can go with anything...so, let's first take a peak at some of those...

Most years, I buy at least one pair of neutral wedges.  This year, I bought this one.  I think Steve Madden makes the most comfortable wedges out there...and durable!  I have Steve Madden wedges that I'm still wearing that are 8 or 9 years old.  I really, really love these!

And look how cute these are!  I love the color, the cork, the straps...I really like these too! (And psssst: they also come in pink!).

I've been seeing these Jessica Simpson wedges in Nordstrom a lot lately.  They're really, really cute and the heel height isn't as tall as others.  If you're new to a wedge, this might be the perfect shoe to test drive.

I blogged about these wedges two weeks ago...and now they're on sale!  Now, they're 33% off...that is pretty fantastic.

Click here to see an entire page of fabulous neutral wedges.

Maybe you're not a neutral wedge kind of person?  Maybe you like a little color?  Or black?  Here are my favorite non-neutral wedges this season...

This little orange wedge (it also comes in blue or brown) is not only fun and bright for summer...but it is soooooooo comfortable!  And the heel height isn't crazy tall...this is an easy to wear summer shoe.

Sheaffer and I have talked about this wedge so much that I'm pretty sure 90% of you have already bought it.  It is the most comfortable wedge I've ever owned.  Ever.  I love this patent black color...but right now, it's also available in taupe (the perfect neutral), red and white.  I have tried on every single color (and purchased a couple of them)...this wedge will be your favorite shoe E-V-E-R.

Look at this fun coral color!  It's so fresh and fun for summer (and this shoe also comes in black, neutral and blue).  Coral is the perfect color for summer.

I am also pretty smitten with this navy wedge.  It looks sophisticated and fun for summer...and perfect for all occasions (and it also comes in nude).  I love the buckle on the side too.

This wedge is on sale right now too!  And look how stinkin' cute it is?!?!  I'm starting to think other than pink, green is my favorite color to wear.  Green is so fresh and yet has a classic look about it.  I heart these green wedges.

Here is some more wedge help for you...

If you're looking for wedges under $50, here is a great list.

If you're looking for wedges with a low heel, here is a great list.

If you're looking for wedges with an extra high heel, here is a great list.

If you're looking for pink wedges, here is a great list.

If you're looking for yellow wedges, here is a great list.

You might ask, why do I always link to Nordstrom shoes?  They have the biggest selection, they always offer free shipping and free returns with no minimum purchase, they always return a product, and right now...they're having a HUGE sale.  It is the perfect time to shop for wedges!

Thanks for hanging out today with my Shade of Shay.  Next week...we're going to talk about the pool bag...and offer a giveaway.  It's going to be so much fun!

Don't forget to check out my foodie blog...today, I have the perfect meal for breakfast, brunch or dinner.
